Shit People Steal: Yakuza edition.

From PDX Eater:
On this edition of Shit People Steal,Yakuza manager Kyle Lovell recounts one particularly bizarre bathroom heist at the swank NE Japanese spot:

“Who would dare steal from the Yakuza? One would think, not many people. Yet good ol’ PDX will always provide a rebel or two, especially after a night of drinking sake. A set of chopsticks here, a glass there, all things to be expected. Yet, the most coveted item Yakuza has to offer and the most frequently stolen item? …

Yakuza vs. Autentica Smackdown… A Sake Battle

Yakuza and Authentica cordially invite you to the ultimate sake and food pairing challenge. Join the chefs from two of your favorite neighborhood restaurants as they pair Momokawa Organic Junmai Ginjo sake with dishes from two very diverse cuisines – Modern Japanese and deeply rooted, classic Mexican fare.

The Chefs: Chef David Gaspar de Alba of Yakuza Lounge vs. Chef Oswaldo Bibiano of Autentica
When: This Thursday (tomorrow!) 8/4 at 6pm sharp
Where: Yakuza Lounge, 5411 NE 30th @ Killingsworth
Who: Open to everyone! Dishes prepared by both chefs in the challenge will be available at both Yakuza Lounge and Autentica as the special for the remainder of the evening.

Chef David Gaspar de Alba of Yakuza Lounge

Chef David Gaspar de Alba was born in El Paso, Texas, where the heat and vibrant community gave him a solid basis for the love for spice and flavor in his life. While Chef David holds western Texas near and dear to his heart, food culture brought him to Portland. From the rich Kobe tartare, to succulent duck, all the way to delicate sashimi, Chef David has a hand in the wealth of ingredients at Yakuza. Inspired by the Japanese izakaya concept, Yakuza is a true food-lover’s bar offering exceptional drinks and signature dishes best shared with friends.

Chef Oswaldo Bibiano of Autentica

Autentica was created through a combination of traditional cooking in Chef Oswaldo Bibiano’s hometown of Guerrero, Mexico, and the appreciation for fine dining he developed while cooking in some of Portland’s most distinguished restaurants. Autentica chooses the freshest ingredients from local farms whenever possible and the menu reflect the changing seasons but keeps its roots firmly planted in traditional Mexican cuisine.

This challenge was originally inspired by a tweet from Yakuza Lounge asking for a smackdown on the best possible pairing with saké. Our thanks to Chef Oswaldo for stepping up!

June, however, offers a break from this depressingly traditional economic theory. For the entire month, diners can enjoy three-course meals from some of Portland’s most celebrated restaurants.
